4-27-19 Dulce was bright, alert and eager to see people today when I went to see her at the vet clinic. We went for a short walk today, as she is sore and still wobbly on her feet. She hasn't yet figured out she doesn't need to pick up her legs so high when she walks. That's okay. It will come in time. Since she has so many radical changes to all 4 feet at the same time we made the decision to leave her at the vet's where she'll get expert monitoring and drugs as needed. Next Thursday the farrier will work on her feet some more, leveling them and getting better balance. The good news is that Dulce will be okay. It is going to take several months - probably a year - to grow new feet that are correct and can handle being ridden once again. Dulce is about 16 years old. She's a sweet horse, halters great, leads like a pro, and walked into the horse trailer without hesitation. She was a riding horse, and she will someday be able to resume that career. After years of being cramped in a little pen I think she will thoroughly enjoy once again walking down the trail. I think we can make it happen!!

Look at Dulce now! She's a shiny black good looking mare with plenty of willingness to engage with people. Such a change in a very short time. We let her out to roam the barnyard and she now comes up to people just to see what we're doing! She's got an appointment to go back in to the vet for another round or hoof trimming on 7-18. She's still a little limpy on her right front. But she's getting better everyday.
Dulce's road to recovery will be a long one. Probably a year before her feet are able to once again support a rider. She's a wonderful, gentle soul and deserves all the help we can give her. Please help us help her.
