A Day with the Vet.

Our veterinarian is a critical part of our rescue team. And we keep them extremely busy with keeping our herd healthy. The past year has brought us a lot of new intakes, both domestic and wild. One of our biggest missions in the past six months has been halter training our mustang stallions so that they would be safe to castrate. “Gelding” these horses is necessary to help them find homes so that they don’t add to the equine population by creating offspring.

Henry, Hopper, and Ranger went through the procedure and are doing very well. After a few weeks of swelling, they are back to normal. Their hormones will settle down in the coming months also and make them more gentle to be around. We are excited to advance their training and eventually find them the perfect human partners.

We also performed lameness evaluations on a Rusty and Rookie to clear them for saddle training. Rusty has some soreness in his hind end that need more time to heal. Rookie is allowed to start training but will need to have special attention paid to muscle development and balance to stay sound.

Stay tuned for updates on these horses!
